About
Atomic Rooster – Atomic Rooster (1970) is a landmark in early progressive rock and heavy psych. Founded by Vincent Crane after leaving The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, the band blended hard rock, blues, and jazz with dark, haunting, organ-driven sounds.

This debut album, sometimes called The Devil’s Answer due to later reissues, featured the original lineup with Crane on keys, Nick Graham on bass and vocals, and Carl Palmer (later of ELP) on drums. Unlike later Atomic Rooster albums, which leaned into heavier rock, this one has a bluesier, more psychedelic edge. Tracks like Friday the 13th and Broken Wings showcase intricate keyboard work and moody atmospheres.

Though not as heavy as Death Walks Behind You (1970), this album laid the foundation for Atomic Rooster’s unique sound.
