About
Building on the groundbreaking sound of their debut, In the Court of the Crimson King, this album blends progressive rock with jazz and classical influences. Tracks like Pictures of a City and Cadence and Cascade showcase the band’s dynamic range, from chaotic intensity to delicate beauty. The album also features the epic The Devil’s Triangle, a haunting, Mellotron-driven instrumental piece inspired by Gustav Holst’s Mars, the Bringer of War.
The tracklist is wrong and incomplete, but resulting from inner cover layout text, text form (tracks titles in capitals) and, unequivocally, from Side Two label, can be considered of historical significance for early UK issues, as Side Two apparently begins with an untitled 'hidden track'.
The first UK pressing of this A1/B1 matrix contains a withdrawn version of 'In The Wake Of Poseidon (Including Libra's Theme)', which is longer than that of later pressings (8'26" vs. 7'56").
This longer version was reissued for the first time in CD as a part of the 40th Anniversary Set from the UK, US, and Japan in 2010.
